NT Brokerage is a part of the fast paced Banking and Markets division within Northern Trust alongside FX and Securities Finance.

Brokerage Operations are an agile and dynamic global group supporting the growing Northern Trust securities business hubbed in Chicago, London and Sydney. The APAC team support Sales and Trading , across 18 markets in the region for the global client base in conjunction with global market support, oversight and monitoring for the APAC domicile client base. Team coverage timings and working hours are seasonally adjusted and late shift coverage will be required in Sydney summer.

This newly created role is within a team of 4, reporting to the Head Operations APAC and encompasses Trade Support, Middle Office, Settlements, Reconciliations, Governance and Control processes, involving internal and external engagement and ownership.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs assigned capital markets operations activities across trade support, settlement, reconciliation, account maintenance, documentation, or control-related processes, ensuring work is completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with established guidelines, policies, procedures, and priorities.
2. Supports APAC domicile client base and all inbound APAC execution from global client base, including: Accounts, transactions, projects, analyses, internal/external relationships within an assigned capital markets operations area, escalating more complex matters as appropriate.
3. Analyzes transaction, settlement, reconciliation, client, account, or operational information and evaluates possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedent to resolve problems in straightforward situations.
4. Monitors progress against processing timelines, service expectations, and control requirements; communicates status updates; and coordinates with peers and immediate managers to support timely delivery of trade lifecycle and operational work.
5. Applies understanding of key business drivers, brokerage and capital markets operations requirements, operational risk, and functional objectives to complete assigned work and support broader team goals.
6. Reviews transactions, positions, cash activity, data, documents, exceptions, and account records for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with established guidelines, policies, and control requirements.
7. Contributes to the quality and timeliness of team deliverables by sharing information, coordinating assigned activities, following through on commitments, and helping resolve routine processing or exception-related issues.
8. Builds tactical working relationships with peers, immediate managers, related operations teams, and applicable stakeholders, with some exposure to senior staff as needed to support coordination and issue resolution.
9. Identifies opportunities to improve workflows, procedures, controls, documentation, or existing capital markets operations processes and supports practical solutions that enhance efficiency, consistency, risk awareness, and service quality.
10. Over time will provide informal guidance to newer team members on routine processes, tools, systems, procedure documentation, brokerage operations activities, and day-to-day work while remaining accountable for individual contributions.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
• Expanded conceptual and practical knowledge of market and process fundamentals, principles, practices, procedures, and systems within APAC markets for Equity and Fixed Income products. Listed derivative experience an advantage.
• Ability to solve problems in straightforward situations by analyzing options and applying technical experience, judgment, and precedent.
• Understanding of key business drivers and how own work supports team, functional, or client objectives.
• Working knowledge of brokerage or capital markets operations activities, including trade processing, settlement, reconciliation, and related operational controls.
• Awareness of applicable regional regulatory requirements and the importance of operating within established guidelines and policies.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities within established guidelines.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for building tactical relationships with peers, immediate managers, and other stakeholders.
• Technology, Coding, Automation and AI integration experience and interest is desired.
• Ability to work independently on assigned responsibilities while collaborating effectively with others across the team or function.
• Ability to identify process improvement opportunities, maintain high-quality procedure documentation, and support implementation of practical, policy-aligned solutions.
• Role-specific licenses or certifications may be required where applicable

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's/University degree required. Typically 3+ years of relevant experience in capital markets, brokerage operations, trade support, or a related operational environment. Equivalent experience and any role-specific certifications or licenses may be considered where applicable.
