Department Overview

The Business Governance and Control team are the protectors of our businesses guided by the Three Lines of Defence Risk Framework: Risk Ownership, Risk Oversight, and Internal Audit. Our overall goal is to oversee the compliance of business risk, controls and oversight activities, while lending a critical voice as a consultant contributing towards a mutual goal. Job Description

Are you enthusiastic about leading a team of governance and control professionals? Is it fun for you to lead diverse functions in an area of moderate risk, complexity or scope usually involving short to medium term planning? If yes, then you are the right place. We are looking for an independent thinker who can work as Manager II, Governance and Control. In this role, you will ensure an integrated approach with other business governance and control areas, the broader organization, and enterprise control functions. In addition, you will:
  • Develop, communicate and implement a holistic governance and control strategy for own specific business function in support of and integrated with the overall business strategy
  • Manage and plan activities that require alignment across multiple areas
  • Lead the implementation of regulatory change management and provide mentorship to the team in the development and/or integrated implementation of policies / procedures / changes across multiple business / functional areas
  • Work closely with senior management to develop business plan, ensuring the optimal use of resources and leverage TD's operating model to improve efficiency, effectiveness and scale
  • Head interface and relationships with corporate and/or control functions to ensure alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements
  • Lead a high performing team; provide on-going feedback and performance reviews, coach and develop employees and ensure performance management activities are undertaken and completed for all employees
  • Handle a team of professionals for a diverse group set of G&C functions while growing talent, developing skills and capabilities to achieve career goals, support project / initiative success and achieve business results
  • Provide people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, handling employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
  • Assess / identify key issues and report to appropriate levels and relevant partners and business management where required
  • Responsible for management of the overall team providing both leadership, mentorship, and expertise; ensures team adheres to enterprise frameworks and methodologies
  • Support team in staying knowledgeable on emerging issues, trends and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts to the Bank


  • Seasoned professional with over 7 years of relevant work experience
  • Undergraduate degree preferred
  • Advanced business understanding and knowledge of risk and control functions
  • Comprehensive knowledge of business and operational functions supported, process management and related processes and regulations applicable to supported regions
  • Exceptional leadership and planning skills to handle teams with functional diversity and complexity and multiple points of internal and external contact
  • Excellent analytical and business communications skills in assessing and handling risk profile for team processes
  • Proficient in using productivity tools and end-user software including MS Office Suite
  • Good communicator with a positive approach that can liaise with cross functional teams, colleagues, partners, and employees to achieve medium to long term goals
  • Robust organizational and team management skills with the ability to work in a demanding environment and handle multiple deadlines and priorities
