Director, Leading DACH Market Entry for a Highly Successful Nordic Mid-Cap Firm, Hamburg, Germany

Our client has a record of success going back decades and has been the most active fund in its segment in the Nordic market for the last ten years. Working in close partnership with entrepreneurs, the firm seeks to build leaders in niche markets, often in service industries, driven by organic growth and targeted buy & build programmes, whilst leveraging ESG and digitisation as competitive advantages. The team are advanced in deploying their current fund vintage, and are already planning a larger generation for next year. Linked to this, they now plan to build a permanent presence in the DACH market and are seeking a dynamic individual to spearhead market entry from a new base in Hamburg.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Carry the brand to the DACH market, raising the firm's local profile through outbound business development, and positioning the firm as a partner of choice to ambitious entrepreneurs
  • Establish and nurture a network of relevant intermediaries and owners to generate dealflow, combining both active buy and build programmes for existing portfolio businesses, and new platforms over time
  • Lead execution of investments through analysis / diligence, structuring, financing, negotiation and closing
  • Active portfolio management with management teams and wider colleagues to drive value creation

YOUR PROFILE:
  • Naturally collaborative personality, able to engage entrepreneurs and build trust around creating a shared vision for growth. High emotional intelligence
  • An instinctive originator, bringing an active network of owners, managers and advisers and able to exploit this to find attractive investment opportunities
  • Strong cultural alignment with Nordic values - humility, transparency, trust, ambition. Able to act as a bridge to this new market, and leverage the firm's historic strengths in sustainability, digitisation and buy & build
  • Excellent track record as a deal leader in mid and smaller cap transactions. You need to be able to demonstrate meaningful buy-side credentials from one or more of the following contexts: private equity, venture capital, family office, corporate M&A
  • Driven personality, ambitious to launch a highly successful firm into a new market and passionate for growth. Personally, credible to grow into a partner position medium term.
  • Native German and fluent English. Past experience working Scandinavian businesses and even some relevant language skills would be an advantage but are not required
