Data Governance - Financial Services / 45k to 55k

I am currently helping our Client seeking a candidate with Data Governance experience to join the team in Hong Kong.

Your role:

• Serve as a core member of the Data Governance team to lead and support organization-wide data governance initiatives.
• Assist in the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of the Data Governance Framework, standards, and controls, with a focus on unstructured data management.
• Contribute to the design and optimization of tools and technologies supporting data governance, including metadata management, data access workflows, auto-classification, tagging, and data quality assurance.
• Promote best practices for unstructured data governance by establishing ontologies, managing taxonomies, and driving organization-wide data tagging efforts to improve data discoverability and AI readiness.
• Support compliance with data privacy, data protection, and data security regulations and internal policies.
• Monitor the effectiveness of governance practices, analyze performance, and recommend continuous improvements.

Ideally you have:

• Proven experience in data governance and data management disciplines such as metadata management, data classification, data tagging, data privacy, security, and data quality.
• Hands-on experience with data governance tools and platforms (e.g., data catalogues, data lineage, data quality tools) and the ability to leverage these tools to operationalize the Data Governance Framework.
• Knowledge of data governance fundamentals essential for AI initiatives, including expertise in Text-to-Insights, semantic search, AI knowledge bases, and model training; experience with unstructured data management techniques like auto-classification and ontology development is a plus.
• Familiarity with implementing data protection and security controls for sensitive and personal data.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with technical teams and influence business stakeholders to adopt governance practices.
• Solid understanding of technology concepts within the financial industry, with prior experience in banking, finance, or related sectors preferred.
• Analytical mindset with structured problem-solving skills.
• Hands-on technical proficiency, including: SQL for data extraction, transformation, profiling, and analysis.
• Python for data processing, automation, text mining, and basic machine learning tasks.
• Developing scripts or workflows to support data tagging, classification, metadata enrichment, and governance controls.
• Familiarity with API integration and RESTful API calls for system connectivity and tool integration.
