Job Summary:

• The Technical Underwriting Training & Development Manager leads the Training & Development pillar of the Underwriting Excellence program across APAC.
• The role builds and operates a role-based competency framework, learning pathways and certification model for underwriting and applicable related functions, and ensures scalable, measurable capability uplift that enables consistent underwriting decisions, effective use of systems and aligns with the underwriting priorities set by the CUOs. Working closely with CUOs, Product Heads, HR, UWLC and local country leads, this role ensures training is aligned to strategic priorities, supports system and product rollouts, and delivers measurable improvements in quality, speed and retention.

Job Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning

• Define the APAC underwriting capability strategy and a multi-year learning roadmap aligned to the Underwriting Excellence priorities and underwriting objectives.
• Translate strategic priorities into training targets, curriculum plans and resourcing requirements for the underwriting teams.

Competency Frameworks & Certification

• Design and maintain role-based competency frameworks that align with global and local frameworks.
• Implement assessment standards and quality assurance for certifications.

Curriculum Design & Delivery

• Lead design and delivery of blended learning (e-learning, virtual/classroom workshops, case-based learning, on-the-job assessments, recorded masterclasses).
• Own content for "UW essentials" (appetite, delegated authority, systems basics, governance) and technical modules by product line.
• Partner with Product Heads and relevant IBUs to produce role-relevant training for system releases, new product rollouts and governance changes.

Learning Management System (LMS) Administration & Analytics

• Oversee LMS strategy and administration for APAC underwriting: course management, enrollments, assessments, certification tracking and compliance reporting.
• Define and deliver learning analytics and impact measurement - link training outcomes to business KPIs.

Onboarding, Development Programs & Talent Pipelines

• Design and run onboarding pathways and accelerated programs for new underwriters, graduates and school-leavers.
• Develop mentoring, coaching and career pathways to improve retention and succession for key underwriting roles in collaboration with HR and relevant IBUs.
• Create manager toolkits and reinforce on-the-job practice to ensure learning is applied.

Change Enablement & Adoption

• Lead the training and adoption element of system, product and governance change programs; work with Change Management and Technology leads to ensure readiness.
• Manage a prioritised training release calendar aligned to the underwriting priorities and in collaboration with HR and the UWLC.

Stakeholder Engagement & Governance

• Act as the primary learning partner to CUOs, Product Heads, Portfolio and Segment Managers and HR; convene learning working groups and gain sponsorship.
• Maintain the training governance process, budget oversight and supplier/vendor relationships for external learning partners.
• Team Leadership & Capability Management
• Lead a regional training team (instructional designers, LMS admin, trainers/subject-matter experts) and coordinate embedded trainers or SME contributors in markets.
• Drive continuous improvement of the training function through feedback, evaluation and quality assurance.

Job Experience & Qualifications:

• Significant experience in insurance/underwriting or related functions with demonstrable experience in learning, capability development or instructional design within a regulated environment.
• Practical underwriting knowledge across commercial and retail lines to shape relevant technical content.
• Proven experience building competency frameworks, certification programs and administering enterprise LMS platforms.
• Experience designing blended learning solutions and measuring learning impact linked to business outcomes.
• Strong stakeholder management with evidence of partnering effectively with senior underwriting leaders, HR, and IBUs.
• Tertiary qualification in education, business, insurance, HR or related discipline; Certificate IV in Training & Assessment or equivalent desirable.
