Project Accountant - SAP Experience, North Dublin

Our client is an international distribution business with an established presence across multiple markets. As part of an ongoing finance transformation and process improvement programme, they are looking to appoint an experienced Project Accountant with strong SAP experience .

This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant who enjoys working across both finance and systems , with a particular focus on improving month-end reporting, strengthening financial processes and helping develop a more efficient reporting environment.

The Role

Working closely with the Finance team and key stakeholders across the business, the Project Accountant will play an important role in reviewing and improving the current month-end accounting and reporting processes.

The successful candidate will use their accounting knowledge and SAP experience to help identify opportunities for improvement, develop more effective reporting processes and support the implementation of enhanced financial controls and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and assess existing month-end accounting and reporting processes.
• Help develop and implement a more efficient and robust month-end reporting system.
• Work with finance stakeholders to identify reporting gaps, inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
• Utilise SAP to improve the quality, accuracy and accessibility of financial information.
• Support the development and improvement of management reporting.
• Assist with month-end close activities, reconciliations, journals and financial analysis.
• Investigate variances and provide clear explanations and supporting analysis.
• Help standardise finance processes and reporting across relevant business areas.
• Develop and maintain financial reports, templates and supporting documentation.
• Work closely with Finance, IT and other stakeholders on finance systems and process improvements.
• Support the implementation of new processes, controls and reporting requirements.
• Ensure financial information is accurate, timely and aligned with accounting policies.
• Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and project support as required.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a qualified or part-qualified accountant, or an experienced accounting professional, with a strong understanding of month-end accounting and financial reporting.

SAP experience is essential for this position.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with finance systems and who can combine strong accounting knowledge with a practical, process-focused approach.

Essential Requirements

• Previous experience in an accounting or financial reporting role.
• Strong understanding of month-end accounting processes.
• Hands-on SAP experience - essential.
• Experience producing and analysing financial reports.
• Strong Excel skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to identify process improvements and implement practical solutions.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with stakeholders across different areas of a business.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working on finance transformation or process improvement projects.
• Experience improving month-end reporting processes.
• Experience working within an international or multi-site organisation.
• Experience with SAP reporting tools/modules.
• Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
