A leading global investment bank is seeking a Tax Compliance Senior Associate / AVP to join its Finance function in Tokyo.

This role will take responsibility for key areas of Japanese corporate tax compliance, tax reporting, tax audits, and regulatory matters, while working closely with tax authorities, external advisors, auditors, and international stakeholders.

You will gain broad exposure beyond day-to-day tax compliance, collaborating with regional colleagues on tax advisory, capital planning, risk management, and strategic finance initiatives. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee Japanese tax compliance activities, including tax returns, tax provisions, related calculations, and compliance reviews.
• Manage tax audits, inquiries, and discussions with Japanese tax authorities, coordinating responses and supporting documentation.
• Work closely with external tax advisors and professional services firms to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality tax deliverables.
• Monitor changes in Japanese tax laws and regulations, assessing potential implications for the business and communicating relevant developments.
• Support tax and capital planning initiatives in collaboration with Finance and Tax colleagues across different regions.
• Partner with internal and external auditors to support tax-related reviews, reporting requirements, and audit processes.
• Collaborate with international stakeholders on broader tax, compliance, risk management, and financial planning matters.

Required Skills and Qualifications Experience:

• Professional experience in Japanese tax compliance, corporate tax, tax accounting, or a related taxation role.
• Hands-on experience managing or supporting tax audits, inquiries, or discussions with Japanese tax authorities.
• Experience preparing, reviewing, or overseeing tax returns, tax provisions, and related compliance deliverables.
• Ability to interpret Japanese tax requirements and assess their impact on business and financial activities.
• Experience coordinating with external tax advisors, auditors, or other professional services providers.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.

Soft Skills:

• Clear and effective communication skills with the ability to work with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality tax and financial information.
• Ability to manage multiple compliance deadlines and priorities in a structured manner.

Language Requirements:

• Japanese: Native level / Business proficiency.
• English: Fluent level for communication with international and regional stakeholders.

• Experience within financial services, investment banking, banking, securities, or investment management.
• Experience working in the Finance or Tax function of a global financial institution.
• Experience collaborating with international and regional stakeholders in a global organization.
