Lead Engineer, Trade Processing Technology
Balyasny Asset Management LP Warsaw, PolandLead Engineer, Trade Processing Technology
Role Overview
As a Lead Engineer on our Warsaw Trade Processing team, you will be a senior technical owner responsible for the design, architecture, and delivery of the platforms that power the firm's post-trade lifecycle. This is a hands-on, player-coach role: you will spend the majority of your time architecting and building production software, while providing technical leadership and light people management to a small team of engineers (approximately four direct reports).
You'll partner closely with a global Operations Technology group to onboard new products onto the trade processing platform, drive the ongoing migration of the stack from C# to Rust, and set the technical direction for a high-volume, distributed system that underpins the firm's Equity, Macro, Multi-Asset Arbitrage, and Commodities strategies.
We're looking for an engineer who leads primarily through technical excellence and delivery-someone who is energized by building, not just directing.
Key Responsibilities
• Own the architecture of high-throughput, horizontally scalable, distributed trade processing systems, ensuring they are reliable, recoverable, and scalable as volumes and product coverage grow.
• Spend at least 50% of your time hands-on-designing, writing, reviewing, and delivering production code.
• Own the full post-trade lifecycle-trade capture, validation, enrichment, allocation, confirmation, settlement, reconciliation, and exception management-across multiple asset classes and strategies.
• Onboard new products onto the trade processing platform, working directly alongside a small team of engineers.
• Lead the C#-to-Rust migration, establishing patterns, standards, and best practices as the platform evolves.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery, and help establish the engineering standards, governance, and best practices for their responsible and effective use across the team.
• Provide technical leadership and light people management-mentoring engineers and supporting their project and career development.
• Act as a technical liaison, translating business needs into technical strategy and ensuring alignment with global development initiatives.
• Define and drive technical roadmaps, balancing near-term delivery with long-term platform health and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
• 5+ years of enterprise software engineering experience, with demonstrated technical leadership and ownership of significant systems.
• Strong command of C#/.NET and service-oriented / distributed architecture, with deep understanding of concurrent and high-performance programming techniques. Experience with, or strong interest in, Rust (the platform is actively migrating to Rust).
• Demonstrated experience using AI tools to accelerate enterprise software delivery-e.g., AI coding assistants / agentic development tools, AI-assisted testing, code review, and documentation-along with the judgment to establish standards and governance for their use.
• Experience designing systems that are reliable, recoverable, and scalable under high volume.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts for both technical and business audiences.
• Familiarity with modern DevOps practices and tooling (e.g., JIRA, Git, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy).
• Ability to provide light people management and mentorship to a small team of engineers.
Desirable Experience
• Hands-on experience with Rust in production systems.
• Strong foundation in agile methodologies and test-driven development.
• Experience with AWS and cloud-native / serverless architecture (e.g., Lambda, DynamoDB) and streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka).
• Full-stack development experience with modern UI frameworks (React, Angular).
• Knowledge of the FIX protocol, advanced database systems, and event-driven / streaming architectures.
• Understanding of the post-trade lifecycle across US and international Equity, Fixed Income, and Commodity markets.
Even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, we'd still love to hear from you-if you're excited about this role, we encourage you to apply!
