Purpose of Job

The Associate Director, HR Business Partnering is responsible for translating business requirements into HR requirements and for evaluating HR services provided in the Bank. The Associate Director, HR Business Partnering will partner with business leaders to provide strategic advisory and support services and ensure that their team delivers highly effective HR to their clients in order that they can achieve their business goals. The role involves a high level of interaction with staff at all levels but particularly with senior management.

The role reports directly to the Director, HR Business Partnering and exists to ensure the Business Partnering teams provide highly effective HR to the whole of the Bank, in order that it can achieve its business goals. He/she will also be responsible for managing a team of 3-5 team members.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Partnering with the business leadership teams to analyse and interpret business needs, identify trends and work with the Director, HR Business Partnering to translate these into HR initiatives.
  • Challenging key business stakeholders where necessary on the implementation of HR policies and procedures in order to ensure better business performance and solutions.
  • Managing the HR Business Partners and ensuring the team provide expert advice and guidance in order to support and influence the business on staff related matters.
  • Managing and overseeing the execution and delivery of all HR elements of the employee life cycle and policies in order to mitigate legal and reputational risk and to meet business needs.
  • Responsibility for providing through the HR Business Partners the management, mediation and facilitation of sensitive, delicate or problematic employee relations issues, medical cases to reach a successful resolution, to mitigate grievances and maintain business continuity, with recourse to the Employee Relations Unit as appropriate.
  • Trusted coaching to business clients in the development of their people management skills (leadership, communications etc) to ensure that performance management and trust is improved.
  • Influencing and collaborating on resource planning measures, succession planning and talent development with the business and Talent Management team and identify short/long term solutions to achieve appropriate staffing to meet needs.
  • Leading the annual review process (performance and compensation review as well as promotion round) for their respective business areas, working in close collaboration with Reward, to ensure fair, consistent application of policies and distribution of budgets. This will involve influencing and challenging senior business leaders.
  • Influencing business decision making by analysing, interpreting and using various HR metrics and KPIs to provide guidance to the business.
  • Instigating continuous improvement ideas and initiatives with departmental peers to ensure improvements to policies and service delivery in business area in accordance with business expectations which align to strategic business objectives and HR best practice.
  • Improving organisational effectiveness within the Bank to raise performance / resource utilisation. This will include analysing organisational design, developing high performing teams and driving cooperation between departments.
  • Leading organisational change within the bank by providing change management strategies, stakeholder analysis and defining and implementing communications.
  • Working collaboratively with the HR Operations and across all Business Partnering teams in order that consistent amendments to the individual's personal style in order to successfully engage with the clients.
  • Creative minded to operate in a constrained environment whilst still achieving the business goals.
  • The requirement to stay up to date with the changes in policies and procedures to be assured of providing the correct advice at the point of request. Ensure best practice initiatives are followed.
  • Working within an environment that has its own employment law framework.
  • Be a driver of change, ensure speed and excellence in implementation and provide seamless support clients in this activity.
  • Co-own the efforts of simplifying and streamlining people processes and be a champion of reducing the bureaucracy and complexity.
  • Raise the level of trust, effectiveness and standards both within HR and the Bank generally.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Extensive and proven professional HR generalist experience, preferably gained in the financial services sector.
  • Graduate (minimum degree) in relevant discipline preferred or equivalent experience.
  • CIPD or equivalent.
  • Proven track record of delivering results.
  • Experience of operating with excellent judgement in a demanding client facing role.
  • Strong partnership, influencing, problem solving and client orientation skills to enable positive engagement with stakeholders throughout the Bank (and evidence of having done so).
  • Good track record in leading and managing teams.
  • Skills in facilitation, counselling and mediation.
  • Change management, succession and workforce planning and talent management experience.
  • Fluency in English and preferably have some fluency in other languages.
  • Be a role model for the EBRD values (and show evidence).
  • Experience of working in a multi-national environment with a dispersed workforce.
  • Evidence of a very good track record in meeting the EBRD Leadership Competencies.
  • Strategic / critical thinker with good business acumen.
  • Some business line experience would be an advantage.
