Description of role and key responsibilities

The Chief Data Office is a new function within Investec working to transform the way data is managed, governed and utilised.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Data Governance Lead to work closely with the Chief Data Officer to build a fully business–led data governance and management framework across a number of data domains.

The successful candidate will have a fine eye for detail and a passion for driving cultural transformation of data value. They  will lead in the creation of the data governance and management framework which will include clear and complete data definitions, data entry policies, the data quality framework, ownership and stewardship of data assets.

Key deliveries include:

  • Developing the data governance and management strategy and implementing the framework - including the data catalogue, metadata management, data quality and data entry policies.
  • Effectively manage tracking and escalation for data management execution and policy implementation
  • Establishing the data quality framework at business field, application and reporting levels
  • Establishing the data governance framework enabling data ownership and stewardship
  • Establishing data entry standards and policies for core applications and measuring adherence via the data quality framework
  • Leading business data quality forums engaging business and application stakeholders in the tracking and remediation of data quality items
  • Leading the virtual team of data stewards to improve data quality through continuous process improvement and co-ordination
  • Focussing on Market Data as a key domain in preparation for FRTB
  • Partnering with the Data Architect to design and implement market leading MDM and Reference Data architectures
  • Leading engagement with Analytics and Data Engineering teams to implement data quality and validation reports
  • Drive forward the key initiatives of the CDO office

Core skills and knowledge

Data Governance

Strong experience implementing effective data governance practice and methods

Reference Data and MDM

Strong knowledge of Reference Data and MDM approaches as a driver of data consistency


Strong communication skills with proven ability to influence senior business stakeholders and data stewards to drive effective data ownership and management

Project Management

Ability to understand gaps in business process and facilitate a programme of improvement via active engagement with stakeholders across the business

Financial Services

Direct experience in Financial Services with thorough understanding of corporate banking market segments and offerings

Regulatory Knowledge as applicable to role (compulsory)

Knowledge of the regulatory environment including FSA regulations

Any other attributes that would be helpful, but not essential for the role
