Our client, a leading global bank are looking to hire a Business Risk Manager sitting within the first line of defence, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. This role will work closely with senior stakeholders across a range of business functions. You will be responsible for identifying, managing and mitigating risk, embedding effective controls, and fostering a strong risk culture across the organisation.

The position requires significant experience in a senior first-line business risk, operational risk, or control role, ideally within financial services or another highly regulated environment. Demonstrated experience leading RCSAs, control assurance, and issues management across a business area or function.

Candidates must have experience working within an emerging markets banking environment and be employed by a small to medium-sized UK-regulated bank, where a broad, hands-on approach to first-line risk is essential.

Job Requirements:

1. Partner with senior business leaders across Operations, IT, Cyber Security, Data, Payments, Trade Finance, Facilities and Client Services to embed a strong first-line risk culture and support effective risk ownership.
2. Lead Risk & Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), ensuring key operational risks, controls and mitigation plans are identified, documented and maintained in line with the Bank's Risk Management Framework.
3. Drive operational resilience and incident management, overseeing risk events, root cause analysis, control improvements and regulatory compliance across critical business services.
4. Provide proactive risk advice on technology, outsourcing, change initiatives and new products, ensuring risks are identified early and managed effectively throughout delivery.
5. Deliver meaningful risk insight through KRIs, executive reporting and stakeholder engagement, working closely with Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit to strengthen governance and continuous improvement.
6. Contribute to the continuous improvement of first-line risk management tools and processes.
7. Provide practical risk advice and constructive challenge to support risk-informed decision-making across change initiatives, new products, outsourcing arrangements, technology projects, and process re-engineering, ensuring risks are identified and managed from the design stage.
8. Deep expertise in first line operational risk management in a UK regulated financial services environment, with the ability to embed effective risk practices across complex and diverse business areas simultaneously.
9. Working knowledge of FCA/PRA expectations relevant to the covered portfolio, including SYSC, Operational Resilience (SS1/21, PS6/21), Outsourcing (SS2/21), ICT and cyber risk expectations, and SMCR Conduct Rules.
10. Strong ability to interpret and apply risk appetite, frameworks, and policies to both strategic and operational decision-making.
11. Proven credibility in advising and constructively challenging senior stakeholders while balancing risk management with commercial objectives.
