We are excited to be recruiting for a new Senior Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Underwriter to join our consistently achieving Global Corporate Speciality (GCS) Underwriting team. This role will be key to establishing and growing the Warranty & Indemnity (W&I) risk both globally and in the UK. Joining this transactional risk team will mean working both independently and collaboratively to solve challenges in a complex financial environment.

The role will sit in Financial Lines within GCS, that manages large business risks (customers with circa £100M turnover businesses) and the core product lines are Property, Casualty and Speciality Risks (Marine, Engineering, Financial lines, Latent defects). From 2017 onwards, it has ambitiously and organically grown in the UK as well as in the wider Global market. This division has been very busy with its swift growth and dynamic team. Aviva is putting resources behind developing these products and the support needed for them, while allowing our team the autonomy and freedom to build as they see fit.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

Our Senior Underwriters are valued for their sturdy technical knowledge and ability to lead on all aspects of programs and processes. Your responsibilities will be focused on managing the underwriting of transactions across sectors of business, consulting on the risk, and developing & marketing new business.

 

  • Contributing to Aviva’s W&I proposition to ensure the delivery of a market leading service to brokers
  • Responsible for risk identification, management, monitoring and reporting within the areas of responsibility, ensuring that risks are clearly understood/managed
  • Co-ordinating with the rest of the M&A team; delivering timely and bespoke transaction insurance documents on deals
  • Focusing on building positive relationships at senior level with end clients and brokers - being a key reference point for junior members of staff and secondees
  • Developing commercially successful relationships with M&A production and distribution sources - with a focus on brokers, investment banks, private equity funds, accountants, and law firms
  • Regularly attending and present at external client engagements, legal and commercial seminars with a view to crafting relationships
  • Proposing and developing new transaction insurance products

 

Experience and skills required

 

  • Transactional M&A commercial experience within an underwriting, finance or legal environment
  • Confidence and personal assurance to deliver business development excellent results in a highly competitive market place
  • Accomplished drafting of commercial or legal documents
  • Capability to negotiate with established legal & commercial clients and advisors
  • Interpersonal skills to work collectively across the Aviva GCS team
  • Passionate, hardworking and creative problem solver
  • Legal or accounting qualification would be beneficial but not essential
  • Previous knowledge of W&I underwriting would be beneficial but not essential
