POSITION SUMMARY:

The DQ team is an integral part of the Nuveen Data Center of Excellence which operates as a Shared Services function under the umbrella of the Client Services & Technology Group. The team is a highly collaborative group of self-motivated individuals who work on various projects simultaneously with the goal of providing excellent service to our business partners and sound data to the organization.

Nuveen is seeking a talented individual who is passionate about the impact that data can have on an organization.  The Data Quality Analyst is responsible to engage with data owners and stewards to elicit business rules and leverages traditional data quality tools to identify quality exceptions. Additionally, the Data Quality (DQ) team is seeking to implement various machine learning techniques to identify latent data quality concerns, both on an ad hoc basis and for production implementation.

As a member of the DQ team, the Data Quality Analyst is expected to represent the team on multiple projects with varying levels of complexity and duration.  Additionally, the Data Quality Analyst will lead or participate in working groups within established projects, and suggest new initiatives based on what they observe, from hot spot issues to process improvements.  


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
 

Data Quality

         Create business rules to manage Data Quality across the enterprise

         Maintain Data Quality rules library

         Profile data and recommend quality rules based on the results

         Understand the fundamental data by domain to assist data stewards in resolving data quality exceptions

         Utilize the exception management platform to track and manage data exceptions across various data domains and data sets

         Triage exception management requests to determine severity

         Investigate data errors and anomalies and assist in root cause analysis  

         Develop feedback loops and socialize data governance norms and best practices in discussions with data stewards

         Become familiar with all domains and develop expertise in several domains

  • Collaborate with other DQ team members to resolve common data quality platform issues
  • Work with IT to resolve functional and performance issues related to the Data Quality systems that facilitate BAU activities 
  • Monitor BAU processes in production
  • Develop and implement test plans and scripts for data quality processes
  • Develop and monitor data quality metrics
  • Develop and maintain data quality dashboards
  • Prepare and consolidate metrics for management review

IT and Business Projects

  • Promote Data Quality standards and guidelines through project-level involvement
  • Engage with business and IT partners to develop an understanding of the data critical to business domains
  • Leverage the acquired understanding to define data quality and process requirements
  • When necessary, manage Data Quality team projects to develop tools, processes, and training materials to advance the Data Quality delivery platform, including gathering business requirements, plan development, documentation, unit testing, reporting, and code deployment
  • Document project progress and activities in systems such as in JIRA and/or Confluence

Technical Capabilities

  • Support data analysis and testing using the ability to navigate a relational database and author queries necessary to extract data
  • Exposure to machine learning techniques or statistical analysis preferably working with categorical data
  • Assist in the configuration and rollout of metadata and data quality management tools

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Skills:

  • A minimum of a Bachelors Degree
  • Approximately 2 years of experience leading data initiatives
  • Understanding of data quality and metadata management concepts and practices for profiling, quantifying and managing data quality
  • Strong analytical skills and strong attention to detail, with ability to take a holistic view as well as understand details
  • Strong SQL background
  • Strong MS Office skills, particularly MS Excel
  • Strong work ethic
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to work in a team and individually
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Skills:

Some or all of the following skills would be advantageous

  • Bachelors in Math, Statistics, or Computer Science
  • Exposure to various machine learning algorithms
  • Python or R scripting
  • Understanding of master data management concepts
  • Experience in the Investment Management industry
  • Understanding of various Investment Management data domains, such as trade management, portfolio accounting, asset reference, product and account reference, client and investor reference, performance and analytics
  • Experience document business processes, data flows, data requirements, standard operating procedures and service level agreements
  • Focus on seeking input, driving for consensus and obtaining closure; excellent collaboration and team building skills
  • Effective mediation skills to facilitate a constructive approach to dealing with conflict
  • Ability to address difficult issues and guide others toward the accomplishment of identified, meaningful goals
  • Authoring experience with collaboration tools like MS SharePoint, Confluence, and JIRA
  • Ability to shift back and forth between facts/details and conceptual frameworks
  • Ability to effectively interact with internal clients and outside vendors to articulate system requirements
