Role Summary:
Under general direction, provides ongoing coaching and training to internal sales associates who are responsible for increasing sales and retaining assets of the American Funds. Partners with management to enhance sales effectiveness and drive the team towards quality client interactions and overall results through consistent and effective coaching, training and messaging.

Primary responsibilities/essential functions:

  • Coaches to specific skills and capabilities, as well as sales opportunities.
    • Directs the on-going sales development of associates; identifies skill gaps, and partners with senior managers, territory managers, and Sales Enablement to recommend, develop and execute a comprehensive plan to build associate sales and investment acumen.
    • Coaches associates on effective sales techniques to increase the quality of the sales interaction, drive the sale forward to a decision and accomplish defined business goals. Tailors the coaching to the individual, identifying, reinforcing, and developing new behaviors that drive individual success and results.
    • Understands the firm(s)’ business model(s), strategic initiatives, and investment platforms, how they connect with CG initiatives and the influence it has on advisor behaviors and practices.
      • Ensures sales calls are tailored to firm and advisor needs, and they connect with CG’s initiatives.
      • Coaches associates in preparation for calls, presentations, and events, as well as opportunities to uncover additional leads.
  • Partners with sales enablement to facilitate product selling and sales skills training classes.
    • Participates in the training of sales skills courses; provides examples, drives and reinforces the content.
    • Assesses participants’ abilities to meet course objectives and apply learning and concepts on the job. Independently addresses participants’ performance gaps and adjusts on-going coaching approach as needed to ensure understanding of concepts.
    • Identifies broader trends in training opportunities; escalates ideas to senior management for further discussion with Sales Enablement.

Business & Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of North American Distribution and the financial services industry. Exhibits knowledge in current and possible future policies, practices, trends, technology, and information affecting the department/business area.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of investment selection and analysis, asset allocation and portfolio construction methodology and ability to apply it to work assignments.
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of overall capital markets. Exhibits knowledge in current and possible future policies, practices, trends, technology, and information affecting the department/business area.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of retirement plan terminology, as well as the marketplace, including ERISA, and the different platforms, such as advisor-sold investment only (IO) and the ability to apply it to work assignments.

Required to hold Series 6, 63, 65 and insurance licenses, and additional applicable licenses as needed due to changing regulatory requirements.
