HWI has a fantastic opportunity to join our Quality Team as a Facility Quality Assurance Technician.
Summary
The Facility Quality Assurance Technician is an integral part in the safe and successful production of refractory products at HWI. It is responsible for performing quality assurance functions including, but to limited to the inspection of incoming raw materials and in process material checks to assure conformance to specifications and quality/process control procedures. In addition, the Quality Assurance technician II maintains a clean and safe work environment as well as maintains professional working relationships with co-workers.

Summary
The Facility Quality Assurance Technician is an integral part in the safe and successful production of refractory products at HWI. It is responsible for performing quality assurance functions including, but to limited to the inspection of incoming raw materials and in process material checks to assure conformance to specifications and quality/process control procedures. In addition, the Quality Assurance technician II maintains a clean and safe work environment as well as maintains professional working relationships with co-workers.
Responsibilities
- Perform physical testing o final monolithic refractory products to confirm products conform to specification and meet established HWI and customer standards
- Perform inspection and testing of raw materials to assure conformance to specifications quality/process control procedures; perform in process testing to ensure product acceptability
- Record and maintain test results and verify conformance to standards
- Prepare certificate of analysis or other quality reports
- Maintain lab testing and analysis equipment
- Perform plant product and process quality observations and recording outcomes
Requirements :
- Requires High School diploma or G.E.D equivalent
- Two (2) - four (4) years of manufacturing experience, preferably in a refractory (or similar) operation and two (2+) plus years of quality assurance experience in a manufacturing setting
- Requires fundamental knowledge and familiarity with ISO 9001 based Quality Management System procedures
- Requires computer operation skills including, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Requires strong interpersonal, communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively
- Requires understanding of basic safety/OSHA standards
- Ability to operate and maintain laboratory instruments
- Requires math, analytical and problem solving skills
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Physical Activity: Requires 1/3 to 2/3 of time using hands/fingers to handle and/or feel, reaching with hands/arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; less than 1/3 of time standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, tasting
- Lifting: Requires lifting up to 50 pounds less than 1/3 of the time
- Vision: Requires accurate close, distance, color and peripheral vision with depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
- Environment: Requires 1/3 to 2/3 of time exposed to wet or humid conditions, working near moving mechanical parts, exposed to extreme heat or cold, or at risk of vibration; les than 1/3 of time in and office setting with limited exposure, working in high precarious places, exposed to fumes, airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals, exposed to outdoor weather conditions, at risk of electrical shock, working with explosives or at risk of radiation
- Noise: Requires exposure to moderate noise
