Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Security

The Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Security leads the company's global HSE and Security programs across a geographically dispersed Technical and Forensic Consulting organization with significant field-based work. The role establishes practical standards and programs that protect employees, manage risk, and support regulatory and client compliance requirements across field operation and offices.



As the company's senior HSE and physical Security professional, the Director provides expertise and guidance across North America, United Kingdom, EMEA and Asia Pacific, and other geographies where work is performed. The role partners with business leaders and employees to strengthen safety practices and drive consistent accountability for HSE across the organization.



  • Develops and leads the company's global HSES strategy, programs, policies, and practice standards.

  • Establishes a practical HSES framework that provides global consistency while addressing local operating risks and regulatory requirements.

  • Advises leadership, managers, and employees on safe practices in the field and office, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance.

  • Assesses risks associated with field assignments, including construction sites, working at height, damaged structures, roadside hazards, industrial facilities, confined spaces, potentially hazardous atmospheres, travel, and other potentially hazardous environments.

  • Develops standards and guidance for pre-task planning (JHA, JSA, SSRA), personal protective equipment, incident response, and other critical safety practices.

  • Leads the investigation of significant incidents, injuries, near misses, security and safety concerns; identifies root causes and recommends corrective actions.

  • Monitors HSES and physical security performance, trends, and key metrics; provides reporting and recommendations to senior leadership, business development, and employee committees.

  • Develops and coordinates HSES training, communications, tools, and resources appropriate for office and field-based employees.

  • Conducts or coordinates HSES audits and assessments across offices, projects, and field operations.

  • Monitors changes in applicable HSE regulations and industry practices; updates company programs as appropriate.

  • Supports emergency preparedness, business continuity, environmental compliance, and response planning from an HSE perspective.

  • Builds relationships with external HSE consultants and clients, vendors, regulators, insurers, and other resources as needed.

  • Promotes a culture where employees understand their responsibility for working safely and leaders actively reinforce HSE expectations.



Promotes a culture of physical security for lone work, office safety and security, emergency response, and business continuity.




Requirements



  • Strong knowledge of occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations, principles, and industry practices.

  • Ability to develop and implement practical HSE programs for a global Technical and Forensic Consulting organization with significant field-based work.

  • Strong understanding of construction, industrial, residential, and disaster environments and associated hazards.

  • Strong judgment and ability to assess risk, investigate incidents, identify root causes, and recommend appropriate actions.

  • Ability to influence and advise leaders and employees across functions, geographies, and levels without direct authority.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate HSE requirements into clear, practical guidance.

  • Conversant and competent on workplace psychosocial regulatory requirements, return-to-work processes, and insurance requirements.

  • Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed global organization and distinguish corporate minimum standards from local legal requirements.

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of progressive HSE experience, including responsibility for developing and leading HSE programs across multiple locations.

  • Experience supporting professional services, construction, engineering, industrial, or other field-based operations.

  • Eligible to work in the United States.

  • Experience supporting geographically dispersed or global operations strongly preferred.

  • Experience with ISO and IMS processes preferred.




Certifications



  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH), or comparable professional safety certification preferred.




Physical Demands - Ability to work in office and field environments, including construction and industrial sites, navigate uneven terrain, wear required PPE, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.




Overtime - HSE and security staffing require 24-hour availability.




Travel Requirements -



  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, including 50% overnight travel.
