In a move that looks a bit meaningful for any banking technologists wondering if the might be better off at, say, Google, Goldman Sachs' top technology recruiter has joined the latest venture of Alphabet, Google's holding company.
Andrew Trout, a managing director who headed recruitment for Goldman's engineering function until very recently, has joined Chronicle as the head of talent acquisition in its Palo Alto office.
Chronical is a cybersecurity platform, born out of X (formerly Google X), an independent subsidiary of Google's parent company Alphabet. X works on inventing and launching moonshot technologies with the aim of "making the world a radically better place". In 2016, X began working on a moonshot that aimed to take on cybersecurity. That team graduated from X to become Chronicle early last year. This March, it announced its first product, Backstory.
Trout managed global engineering recruiting operations for Goldman and led the recruitment strategy and execution for the division with more than 8000 employees, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Prior to joining Goldman in 2017, Trout worked for Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey's credit card and mobile payments company Square for almost four years. There, his responsiblities included leadership talent acquisition as well as international recruiting.
Google has shown a tendency to hire from Goldman Sachs, particularly for sales roles. Not all technologists who join Google are happy there, however.
