A London hedge fund appointed a new chief risk officer in March and now its old one is leaving

London-based credit hedge fund Arini has demonstrated the art of succession planning.

In March 2026, it quietly appointed a new chief risk office in the form of Shray Patel, its head of market and credit risk. Patel had joined from Man GLG in March one year earlier.

Now Arini's old chief risk officer is going on his way.

Writing on LinkedIn, James Howard said the "time has come" for him to "move on" after nearly three years at the fund. Howard didn't say where he's moving on to, but he will remain a member of Arini's advisory committee.

It's conceivable that Howard is moving on to a pleasant retirement. Before joining Arini, he spent 22 years at Credit Suisse, where he was latterly global head of fixed income investor products.

Arini's 35 year-old founder, Hamza Lemssouguer, also came from Credit Suisse, where he famously generated $120m in profits at the age of 29. Hamza and Howard presumably have history.

Patel doesn't come from Credit Suisse. Before Man GLG, he was at JPMorgan.

If Howard wants to do something different, he could always get out of financial services entirely. His bachelors degree from Imperial College London is in petroleum geology, something that may be useful in the years to come. He declined to comment for this article.
