The Coffee Run: Goldman Sachs' 29 year-old trading star left the bank. Why?

We've launched a new weekly video series to accompany Morning Coffee, in which we look at one story in more depth to give you the full picture.

Today, although Goldman’s newest MD class is out, one of the bank’s most prodigious young VPs wasn’t on the list… because he just left for a hedge fund.

Wajih Ahmed turned down a shot at MD in order to join Balyasny this week. In the video below, we look at other traders who were Goldman Sachs stars in their 20s, and what happened to them when they left banking (or when they didn’t). We also look at why Balyasny might have stood out to Ahmed when picking a hedge fund suitor, and explored what happens when moving to a hedge fund goes wrong.
