Wells Fargo hired a rates trader from JPMorgan and now he's building a team

Nikhil Choraria is not the only man on the move in London now that US banks' bonuses have been paid. Charles Adams, a senior SSA (Sovereigns, Supranationals, and Agencies) trader in London has also made a move. Having done so, he is building a team.

Adams has arrived at Wells Fargo in London, where he is senior lead for European rates securities trading. Adams didn't respond to a request to comment for this article, but we understand that he will be building out the bank's European cash rates trading business. This suggests hiring. The business currently comprises Adams alone.

Adams spent 14 years at JPMorgan and was latterly the desk head for its UK/European Credit and SSA specials trading and financing businesses. His new role at Wells Fargo therefore looks like a promotion.

SSA traders can be popular. Jonas Klink at UBS, for example, has been the past subject of bidding wars. Bobby Previti, who ran SSA and covered bond trading at Bank of America, is now running a pod a team at Point72.

Wells Fargo has big plans this year. It's adding managing directors (MDs) in the investment bank and is building out its trading business. Fernando Rivas, head of Wells Fargo's corporate and investment bank told the Financial Times in January that the bank is now able to flex its balance sheet and work with hedge fund clients after a seven year long asset cap was lifted last June.
